There’s a sense that some of the regular encounters were rushed, though - Uncharted’s combat has never been as slick as Gears of War, which it borrows much from, but Among Thieves does a better job of designing stages around Uncharted’s more athletic mechanics.

Still, it's possible to produce some cool results, and the mode is a good way to show off the collection's impressive fidelity.Īnd while Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception overreaches a little in its attempt to end the series on a downbeat note, it manages to squeeze in some spectacular moments. It can be hard to move the camera around, and you usually can't take photos during a set piece or even with a gun drawn. The mode here is a little limited, however. It lets you freeze the action, adjust the camera, and apply effects like depth-of-field to enhance your shot. The images in this article were taken using The Nathan Drake Collection's photo mode, a feature that's getting more and more common in action games like Infamous: Second Son and The Last of Us: Remastered. Wh o could forget the moment in Nepal when a helicopter demolishes the building you're standing in? It’s where Naughty Dog came into its own as a creator of cinematic, heart-stopping set pieces that seamlessly slot in alongside the core action. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the true classic in this collection, with incredible direction, much-improved pacing, and sensible tweaks to the action - it’s one of the most confident sequels ever made, and the game that cemented the series as a PlayStation mainstay. But Drake’s Fortune still feels a little outdated to play today, with less imaginative combat design and clunky controls that don’t hold up well next to the later two games. Bluepoint Games, which handled the conversions, deserves a ton of credit for a slickly produced package.

Textures, lighting, and character models have all been improved, and each game runs at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The Nathan Drake Collection, however, updates assets across the board to make for a smoother transition between each title in the trilogy.

Naughty Dog is one of the most technically accomplished studios in the world, and each Uncharted outdid its predecessor to become the most impressive PS3 game of its day. In 4 its all this unnecessary drama bullshit, where he has settled down to normal life except he secretly yearns for adventure (subconsciously?) and his wife even wants him to be more adventurous (for him to be happy) but he thinks she doesn't want him to or wants to protect her or some crap (Even though they went through sooo much crazy shit together in 1-3 already) its like the scenario and actions of the characters are completely at odds with the dialogue and overarching story.Drake’s Fortune, the first game in the series, has undergone the biggest graphical overhaul in this collection, because beyond the ambition of their designs each member of the series is pretty much on par with each other on PS4. This is just turning into me being annoyed about Uncharted 4's crap story elements, remember in 2 where he fucks Chloe off screen at the start but then thats laid to the side as a dalliance when they were separated and he gets back with Elena at the end. Drake was like that in only a handful of scenes across the games and its where a normal person would have their heart rate/worriment up because someone he loves is in danger, he's been caught squeezing the wrong arse or is about to die. No offense to Tom Holland but he just doesn't have the same energy as Drake in the games, Tom is too ritalin-y. Nathan Fillion aside, I have a bad feeling about the film, I think its going to be a big poo.

No one was going to do a Marvel and hire an actor with no huge star power for a video game movie with likely a huge budget at the time. Not to say it wouldn't work, but his star power had waned by the time any serious talk of a film ever got off the ground after franchise gained huge success in later entries, and he wasn't at his prime at the time those talks started. Making this particular time and year to be the worst time to cast him as Nathan Drake as originally portrayed in the original trilogy. Unfortunately, Nathan Fillion at this time has become a far more relaxed man and it shows. But, the popularity was definitely at it's peak and the time where a talk about a movie can be seriously had (but not really). This in itself is reflected by how ridiculously bombastic the third entry in the franchise is, which unfortunately tarnished the story end of things in the game. Uncharted 3 was probably where the franchise was at it's height in terms of brand and marketing power.
